Nanterre – A Weekend Getaway from Paris

Image result for nanterre paris

This is a city I came across while traveling to the suburbs of Paris. This particular city lies in the western part of Paris, on the borders of Puteaux. Today the modern city has a bustling business district but there are old heritage landmarks to discover here as well as the Mount Valerian in the backdrop which promises wilderness nearby.

I traveled to this city easily by metro from Paris. There are boat services by the river Seine as well which offers scenic tours by the riverside. When I came here I found the green spaces and parks inviting and loved taking long walks in these areas. These also happen to be venues for cultural events and festivals and if you come here during summer, as I did, you can enjoy most of these events for free.

Cathedral Sainte-Geneviève-Et-Saint-Maurice

When I was out to know more about the history of the place, I was instructed to stop by this landmark. You will find this old church dating back to the fourteenth century. It is a beautiful building whose original remains is represented by the bell tower, the remaining having been rebuilt in the sixties. This rebuilt parish church was also the birthplace of St. Genevieve. Those who love architecture will marvel at the Romanesque-Byzantine structural elements here.

André Malraux Park

One of the parks with a distinct history, I found out that this park has been built on a former slum and wastelands area from the seventies. Today it is a peaceful haven for most visitors and for the city dwellers. If you have hired a bicycle to tour the city, you will find excellent biking trails here, a park that spans 25 hectares. It also has a lake, climbing wall and a water playground that your children will enjoy.

There are several other parks to enjoy here such as Way of the Island, Cemetery Park on Mount Valerian and Chenevreux. Altogether, you can enjoy a wonderful summer weekend here in the open spaces, walking or biking around with your family.

Nancy – A Hub of Medieval Heritage of the Country

As I traveled to the northeast of France, a city that I came across and would recommend to fellow travelers is Nancy. It is an uncommon name but it lies by the riverfront in the Grand East of the country. As with most of the inner and smaller cities of the country, I found this region to be rich with its nouveau art landmarks as well as late Baroque architecture.

If you come to Nancy I would recommend that you find a place to stay by the central square. This is one of the heritage sites that you find here and this particular place acts as a focal point of the city. Since I and my friends put up at a place close to the grand square, we simply walked over to this place. This majestic site has wrought iron gates that are gilded and with rococo fountains inside the lawns. The site has several churches and ornate palaces that showcase the medieval history of the place.

Palais Ducal

As you come by the square, visit this grand old palace which was home for the Lorraine dukes. It is now known as Musée Lorrain. It is a dedicated museum where you can learn about the region’s culture, history, and regional art.

St.-Epvre and Musée Des Beaux-Arts

These are basilicas of the neo-Gothic era that are nearby. We combined all these historic landmarks in a single day tour and you can do that as well. In both these places, you will find exquisite pieces and specimens of glassware that are of the art nouveau style and date back to the 14th and 20th century. There are paintings of these periods as well.

Musée De l’École De Nancy

Once I started to visit all the historic and museum sites that this city has, it did seem that there is much to explore and know about. This is another unique museum that has exhibits of olden day furniture as well as Objets D’art, all housed in a villa which is surrounded by garden spaces.

Crucita: The Best Trip For The Weekend

I went on a weekend trip to Crucita with my boyfriend. We had a great time there. The best time to visit Crucita is between August and October. We stayed at Beach Front Studio. It is said to be one of the favorite beach destinations in Ecuador. It is 40 km away from Manta so we drove there in our car. It has a pleasant climate.

We went to El Viejo y el Mar for lunch. They had helpful staff and excellent reception. We enjoyed the hospitality with the amazing pizzas and Mojito and Mora smoothie. They even serve a variety of shrimp dishes such as breaded shrimp, sour shrimp, shrimp in coconut sauce, shrimp with spaghetti and more. On the top, they even have options for vegetarians. We then decided to go for paragliding. That was an excellent experience. They even conduct hang-gliding and paragliding international championships.

We spent our evening at the beach. The tranquil atmosphere with the deep blue clean water and fine-grained sand was soothing. It felt as if we should not go back. We then went to Napoli for dinner. They serve delicious Italian and Mediterranean food. We had Tuna fish with peanut sauce. They had themed murals and attentive service was provided. They had a variety of pizzas, cannoli, spaghetti, Bolognese meals and more in their menu.

The next morning we went for swimming. After returning, we went to Picanteria Omega 3 which was quite close to our hotel. We had Cebiches, Camarones al Ajillo (a dish of shrimp) and mixed rice. After such a delicious meal, we ended our trip and drove back home.

Thus, we had a great time. It is recommended that we visit this place for at least 3 days.
